Secondly, thanks for keeping with it even through critisism. Maybe for selfish reasons, I'm really glad you kept with it... since I like your versions the most. Plus, what you do.. a good portion of it is for your own enjoyment, right??? So I'm glad you got to do a drama you love. That'll make the outcome that much better, since it's something you like. You need to be self-satisfied to b able to do your best on the other dramas too, right?? :lol:

Even though we do have minor errors (yes, I can't help but find them after the fact that they are released...T.T), I hope y'all enjoy our labor of love of another wonderful series. :D

And for those other kitty fans who are just dying to get their grubby hands on our other projects, we will commence as soon as we're all fully rested from both this series as well as our everyday hectic lives! (It was to the point that Hime and I almost got temporarily hospitalized or bedridden(?)....like seriously! But nothing major. Thank god!^^)

The three of us always experience hectic things at the same time... I barely made it in time for the edits on the last episode... I had a set deadline to move... Y.Y

I have a quick question, though... I was a bit shocked at the end when she's late & he called her "*itch" - did the other subbers water down the language or is it the type of thing that's open to interpretation? I'm just curious as I'm teaching myself Japanese but, of course, expletives aren't very high on my "to be learned" list so, aside from baka, I have no idea how to take what he said. I noticed it several other times, too, where something would be translated as sh*t when other subbers used d*mn, etc.

Well....we liked to keep everything as real as possible. So even though some parts of it was as you said "watered down" in other subbing groups, we liked to keep the feel of the situation as close to the Japanese impression as possible. It was just our preference. ;)

Also, having swear words used when they spoke English, we felt it was okay to use the same language to express their lines. But of course, the Nya Posse don't like swearing, so naturally we put astericks in place of certain characters. ^^

If you're teaching yourself Japanese through our subs, then I would say that our translations are more of a cultural feel rather than of literal translation. We try to bring out the cultural side of the words in our translations as much as possible. This way you're not only understanding what is being said, but are also getting the feel of their certain way of handling the situation influenced by their culture. I dunno... Am I even making sense?o.O

That's what I was wondering - if it was words that could be interpreted either way or if the swear words are closer to the Japanese impression. Thanks for explaining. In regards to the swearing when they speak English (or when there are "Americans" around) it'd be wierd if the subs said something different. :D I have to wonder if they realize just how strong those words are to us, though.

I'm not teaching myself through subs, though. I have the Pimsleur Audio Language System & several books on kana/kanji that I am using. Plus I have a few Japanese penpals who I can consult with questions as well as places like this forum. Watching dramas (& listening to NewS) just helps me practice listening & comprehension. I get a real kick out of watching a drama & hearing something I understand & seeing the way the subs were interpreted.

I majored in cross-cultural studies so I understand what you mean about translating with a cultural feel rather than literally. It's called contextualizing - so we get the context, the intended meaning, rather than literal words that may not convey the same thing.
