*hugs Kealii*
btw, are you from Hawaii?o.O *looking at the name*
kealii - July 29, 2007 09:37 AM (GMT)
yup. from oahu. live on the mainland now. are you from hawaii too? don't know many people who'd catch on to kealii being hawaiian
BlueEyedWolf - July 30, 2007 08:19 PM (GMT)
Yeah. The whole Nya! Posse is from the Big Island. Hime is orginally from Oahu though she now lives in Hilo, Setsuna is from Kona though she now lives in Japan, and I'm from Hilo myself. We all met at the University some years ago.^^
And I have this thing about languages. Being the crazy linguist that I am, Hawaiian is one of the languages that I've studied. That's how I recognized your name. ^^
kealii - July 31, 2007 10:50 AM (GMT)
haha, wow that's crazy. i was just in hilo about a week ago. me and a friend of mine saw round trip interisland plane tickets for 50 bucks so we flew over to hilo for a few days. definitely want to head over to japan for at least a few years though.
so you're a linguist eh? i'm so jealous. only language i know fluently is english (and pidgin of course :D ) but i took 4 years of chinese in high school and am studying japanese and physics on the mainland now. i've actually been pretty tempted to move back to hawaii and study marine biology at uh hilo. but there's that whole money thing...lol. i've been wanting to donate to you guys for a while but i had to save all the money i had for my trip back home since i wouldn't be working for over a month and had to deal with moving into an apt. but once i get settled i definitely will. i think your work is simply amazing and am more than happy to support it.
so have you and hime ever gotten to go to japan? it boggles my mind to think that it's possible to have the fluency and cultural understanding that you all have without having been there

Well, Hime's been to Japan twice in a year (last year), and she's been studying the language for years just like Setsuna. I myself have actually lived in Japan when I was young. I had the 'real crash course' of the language and culture at a really young age.^^ That's why I tend to suck at English when I'm translating, though a lot of people disagree with me. <_< I'm always mixing up my grammar and stuff (and of course it doesn't help that my Pidgin gets in the way from time to time :D :P ).
Oh yeah, I heard that our Marine Biology classes are pretty good. I have a friend majoring in it, and she enjoys it a lot. I myself am clueless when you speak science though... :P Our campus is pretty relaxed and very warm feeling (compared to Manoa) if you ask me :D You might just enjoy the true 'Hawaiian-ness' here. ;)
So what did you see in Hilo? *is curious since Hilo is so boring*
kealii - August 1, 2007 09:17 PM (GMT)
ah lucky. growing up in japan. have you gotten to go back since you lived there? and i dunno what you're talking about with your english being bad though. seems good to me.
yeah i think i saw the campus when we were wandering around. it looked way nice. better than most of the schools on the mainland. and i know what you mean about it being warm feeling, pretty much everywhere we went felt like that. only thing that bugged me was the black sand at the beaches. never seen it before and i was totally shocked at how different it was from the oahu beaches. couldn't help but thinking of an oil spill when i looked at the water. but it probably wouldn't be too hard to get used to.
hmmm, we actually spent a lot of time at prince kuhio plaza. and did a bunch of wandering. there were some awesome moments like when we just knocked a coconut out of a tree and busted it open with a rock and drank it. and there were some awesome trees to climb near the beach. and then at the very end we went to the volcano national park and got some awesome pictures.
so do people go to the beaches a lot on the big island cause i didn't see very many big beaches...but then i only saw about half the island. wondering if people just don't go to the beach there or if we just didn't see the good places
BlueEyedWolf - August 2, 2007 12:05 AM (GMT)
I've been back to Japan off and on when possible since my mom's side of the family is Japanese, but not recently. The last time I was there was back in Dec 2004-Jan 2005 for a month for my cousin's wedding. She had asked me to dance Hula to the "Hawaiian Wedding Song". I totally sucked.... <_<
Yeah, the black sand beaches we have... Being the youngest occupied island, instead of coral growing, we got eroded lava pebbles. <_< Have you visited the Green Sand Beach and Kona's white sand beaches? Yeah, when it comes to the different sands and climates, our island seems to have them all...or so I'm told. :P
Oo~h, raw coconuts. Though I'm not too fond of coconuts (can't eat them), I normally bust them open with a pick and serve them to friends or guest (I have a technique where I drop them from the tree without climbing it)^^
There are too many nice beaches to name actually. It all depends on where and how far you want to travel. And it also depends on whether you're going there just to swim and kick back, or actually surf/boogie board. Maybe next time you plan on coming back to Hilo you can give us a holla. I'd be more than happy to give you the cool highlights and spots to visit since the scenery and beaches are the only things that we can really offer on this pathetic rock^^
kealii - August 2, 2007 06:14 AM (GMT)
man you really are lucky. i've never even been to japan and you get to back often. wowzas you danced hula? impressive. it's so freakin hard. my grandma used to teach hula and she was trying to show me some stuff but i was having so much trouble with it.
green sand? ;) weeeeeird. only party of the big island i've visited was hilo. and when i was in ilke 5th grade we took a field trip there but i don't remember where at all.
yeah strangely enough i've never had a coconut i've liked until that one. still didn't like the meat but the juice was really good. oh you have a technique eh? and would this involve throwing rocks at it :D
yeah we only really saw one beach so we can't really judge. main thing holding us back was we were on a strict budget and couldnt' really afford to rent a car; they charge you extra under 25...rawr. haha, wish i had known a few weeks ago, totally woulda taken you up on that offer. that reminds me of this "rent a local" coupon in some tourist book on oahu...totally cracked me up. and if you guys are ever..in colorado? then i'd be happy to show you guys around too. lol. and colorado is way cooler than like any other mainland state. so much to do here. mountain biking, rock climbing, skiing, snowboarding, and tons of other stuff. highly suggest you visit at least once. the rockies are absolutely gorgeous when they're snow capped
BlueEyedWolf - August 3, 2007 04:50 AM (GMT)
Nothing really big. Just simple stuff. And ya, the other Nya girls dance hula as well. I think they're both WAY better than me. :D
Yeah, it's Olivine(?). It's made from clusters of green gases that were trapped in the lava when it hardened. After the black basalt part erodes away, the green little crystals are what's left. Green Sand Beach is called this because of all the Olivine deposit (that's what my Geology teacher told us) ;) . You can even find these green little crystals all over the island. Heck, I have them in my drive way.

Nah. Even though I do have a good aim, I use a rope with something to act as a weight, hook it on the branch, and tug till they come loose. I found it to be the easiest way to knock them down even though the initial part of hooking it on the branch is a pain.
Colorado?o.O Never been there. The only rocky places I've come close to, other than Japan, is Oregon. But I do have friends from there as well as living there too. They all tell me I have to visit there some day cuz it's da bomb!^^ Maybe when the Nya! Posse isn't that poor we'll make a trip there one day, ne? ;)
Oh my goodness, I hope everybody will forgive us for going off topic here. O.O *just realized how much she had written that was not MBMH related....repents*
And just as a side note, MBMH ep8 is at me. I shall jump on it as soon as I can find a way to open the stubborn file...I swear, it hates me.T.T
kealii - August 4, 2007 03:18 AM (GMT)
that's crazy about the crystals. would love to find stuff like that in my driveway. and that's a nifty trick ya got there with the coconuts. probably safer than throwing rocks in the air and running to keep from getting hit in the head. woops >.> yeah off topic. hehe.
so how bout that makio eh? must admit, mikki has definitely got a more bad@$$ air about him. but makki's facial expressions are just too much. gotta love nagase.
BlueEyedWolf - August 4, 2007 03:45 AM (GMT)
YAY~! I taught that darn file who's boss! Yes I did!>< HeheheheXDDDD
I'm not sure how soon we can get the love out, but none-the-less, it's in the final QC stage~ *is happy*
*dances around the room with joy*^^
